MODEL CITIZEN: SHELBY FURBER

When frolicking at fashion week a few months back, I had scheduled an interview with none other than the beautiful Ford Supermodel of Canada, Shelby Furber. Just this past winter, Shelby flew to the coastal resort town of Budva, Montenegro to compete in the global finals for the Ford Supermodel of the World competition as the representation of Ford's Canadian Supermodel. At 5"10 with blue ocean-spray eyes, the brilliant brunette landed an impressive third runner-up pick in the competition, setting a phenomenal start for her modeling career. Soon after, the crowned Canadian super-queen was already walking for big names such as Lucian Matis, Diesel, Joe Fresh, Renata Morales, Evan & Dean as well as Gaudet and Pink Tartan. She also appeared in the prestigiously high-profile Chanel Resort Show last November 2008, held at a hanger in Santa Monica Airport. Shelby has recently appeared in editorials for Glow and Cheek Magazine, stunning the pages with an Alana Zimmer-esque profile with an added look to call her own.

Have a look below for some bits and bites from our fashion week interview.

Name: Shelby Furber
Agent: Ford
Interviewer: Nadia, TFVG.

Hey Shelby, how are you doing today? Enjoying yourself?
Yeah, I'm loving the week so far! It's been such a long week, but in a good way!

Yeah, I'm with you on that one! So let's get started?
Sure!

Alright, so how long have you been modeling Shelby?
Since last summer, so almost a full year now. I was crowned Ford Supermodel of Canada in June 2008, so yeah just a few months short of a year.

What's your favorite part about modeling?
I have to say I love the runway shows! They're so colorful and they are always a great experience.

What about your favorite part about being here at fashion week?
Honestly, every single bit of it is amazing. I don't know, it's just like, once you get on the runway it's so much fun, just being out there has got to be my favorite part. All the lights and just being on stage, it's really great!

Do you mostly do runway, or catalog work as well?
Both. I've mostly been doing runway, but recently I've done two shoots for Glow and one for Cheek Magazine so those were great.

Wow, that's a great start, only in a year and already rocking Glow Magazine!
Yeah, for sure! But there is still a lot I want to do!

So it seems you are looking to pursue modeling a great deal further?
Definitely, I hope so and I will see where it takes me.

Well, you have a gorgeous face darling and I definitely look forward to see you on catwalks and covers alike in the next little while!
Haha, thanks so much!

So what do you have left to do today?
Well this evening I'm walking for Pink Tartan, the invite-only show later tonight, but I have been so busy all day I think I'll go relax a bit with my family and then come back for hair and makeup.

Sounds great! Well I will be keeping an eye out for you from the front row, silently rooting for you! Good luck tonight Shelby and thanks for your time!
Thank you very much!

FIERCE KITTY SWIPES BACK

While perusing some online boutiques just the other day, I found a frequently re-occurring trend that clawedat my couture-thumping heart each time I managed to stumble upon it. Fierce as a kitten, yet suave as a sultry cheetah, imitation leopard prints have pounced their way back into the summer style scene. However, be wary with these prints (or any for that matter), for there is in fact such a phenomenon some wise wanderers like to title “too much of a good thing”. Nonetheless, everything in model-worthy moderation my darling couture cats.

As per usual, the designers and style forecasters had their fierce kitty fashion on long before any of us set foot outside in leopard print Manolo Blahniks. Top couturiers such as Proenza Schouler, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian LaCroix, Oscar de la Renta, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Nanette Lepore, and Diane Von Furstenburg have been serenading the runway with safari-sweet inspirations since the Spring 2009 Runway Previews last September at New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park. Diane Von Furstenburg took the runway by storm with her fresh, bohemian safari theme, transforming the runway into a earthy jungle with top models strolling down the catwalk in flowery prints of all sorts. Since then, the fashion world has been prancing to get their paws and claws into safari-themed, jungle-cat prints to adventurously adorn for Spring/Summer 2009.

So as summer sends its warm, gentle breeze streaming around the corner, the time to re-up our summer wardrobes has finally fallen upon us. With this darling new discovery of the finest feline prints, I know what few items I will be in search of to add to the closet that summer so excitedly demands I have. Hence, the items I have chosen to feature at the top of this post are my favourite finds from our dashing new discovery, and are ideal pieces to imitate for the sunny months of summer. Check out the few items (with clickable links) below to take a look at a few leopard-themed items to have yourself looking as fierce as a kitten this season. May your new finds prove to be just the catnip you need to send you into your rip-roaring summer safari!

MODEL CITIZEN: ANNA SELEZNEVA

Famous for her steel-gray eyes and high cheekbones, eighteen-year-old Russian model Anna Selezneva is a porcelain-perfect face on the rise. After signing with Parisian model management Silent in 2007, Selezneva made her big debut in October 2007 at the spring fashion shows for Celine, Akris, and Dries Van Noten. Within a month, the Moscow-born beauty graced the cover of Italian Vogue Gioiello, peeking out from under a royal blue summer hat with her entrancing gaze. Already, Anna was making her mark in the industry.
After one year, Selezneva was already strutting down the runway for big names like Lanvin, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Valentino Couture. She was opening for Balmain and Albereta Ferretti and closing for Yves St. Laurent and the Valentino Couture shows in Milan and Paris, an extraordinary honor for a runway model. Barely a year after being signed, this radiantly refined was already rocking the covers of British Vogue, Russian Vogue, and French Vogue as well as signing a fragrance contract for Vera Wang’s Look, photographed by one of the industry’s finest, Steven Meisel. Why, even just two months ago she was even selected to replace of Suvi Koponen as the face of Calvin Klein Collection! While it takes many models years to reach the heights of the top model ranks, Anna Selezneva gracefully glided her way to the top within a mere two years.

Whether in Vuitton or Vogue, catwalks or covers, keep one long-lashed, steel-gray eye out for the alluringly delicate face of Anna Selezneva.
